The word in our house right now is to check out Tesla Tapes, current project of Manchester outfit, Gnodheads. Rather partial to this old-time photo of Eric Cantona, sporting a brilliant AJ Auxerre shirt.

foiled again

Last year I wrote a post entitled 'it's only March' as we were experiencing something of a heatwave in Edinburgh around the same time, a year ago. I missed the boat and did not quite manage to get the top photograph of this post in last week, heralding the joys of Spring and its better weather. A week ago we were experiencing cracking weather and sporting sunglasses (as in the second photo down). The bottom image is of my daughter and me in snowy Edinburgh... yesterday.

Tommy's Leith

Great new drawings by friend and Edinburgh artist, Tommy Perman. These are of our old stomping grounds of the city's Easter Road and Leith. See more of his work here.

La Samaritaine

via josephhosn.wordpress.com

The dearly departed La Samaritaine department store in Paris (it closed its doors in 2005), has had a recent brilliant revival. Though no longer open for official business, the beautiful Art Nouveau building is still in use every now and again. Today saw the place used for the Kenzo show during Paris Fashion Week (see above) and was featured in last years' Leo Carax film, Holy Motors (see stills below), with some great scenes of Kylie Minogue doing her stuff round the store and on the iconic roof. Lovely original advert, too, at the bottom of the page of the shop in its heyday. RIP.

belles pompes

All images via adieu-paris.com

Spring is a-coming and it is time to look ahead to shedding layers and changing footwear. The 2013  Easter break to the Gard is almost upon us and I for one am hoping it will be warm enough to paint my toenails and get my feet out for the first time this year. In the meantime, the new Adieu collection has appeared and I will be eyeing up this little lot for the next while.
